The Medicine Woman's Roots: Alder: Tree of Transformation & Healing This may be a helpful website to go to for North American plants that heal various problems in the body. The Bible says that we have been given every green leaf for the healing of our bodies. This verse is found in Ezekiel. This would include all parts of plants or mushrooms that grow naturally.
I also recently heard from the Holy Spirit that I must plant two kinds of food olive trees everywhere that I go, even if the land does not belong to me. Besides the usefulness of olives as food and for olive oil, the leaves of olive trees are anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal. In other words, they act to strengthen the human immune system and prevent or help cure disease. If you live where it is too cold for olives to grow, you can still plant them in large pots and take them inside in winter. The reason for planting two varieties is that they need to cross-pollinate to bear fruit. Many blessings, Sister Katy

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year
WEll, Dec. 21 has come and gone and it looks like we are all still here. The dairy goats did dry up some, though and are giving very little milk now, but the hens are making up for that with eggs all overt\ the place.
This is a good time to be starting seeds indoors and planning that spring garden. Blessings to all.

Happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Now is still a good time to be planting winter vegetables in Texas and dormant fruit trees. A simple greenhouse can be made using PVC pipe and painter's clear plastic rolls from a building supply company such as Lowe's, Sutherland's, or Home Depot or smaller hardware stores and lumber supply places. A good place to put a greenhouse is on the south of your house where some of your winter heat from your home can get to your greenhouse. Remember, propane heat kills and damages plants of all kinds.
Since our president won the election, it is time to be upgrading your gardening and homesteading skills. It is time to be learning about and planting healing herbs. Already under Obamacare, people age 70 and up are being denied dialysis, diabetes care and medical care for life-threatening aneurysms when they are bleeding to death. In 2014, only painkillers will be allowed for people age 70 and up even if they are in a car wreck. I was told this by a young man whose father is an M.D. and plans to quit the practice of medicine in 2014 when he will be forced to disobey his Hippocratic oath to give medical care to everybody, not just to the younger population. A lot of doctors and nurses plan to quit practicing medicine in 2014 because Obamacare will not allow them to give complete care to their patients.
It is in our older people that the knowledge and skills of our culture resides and our true history. When a culture gets rid of its elderly, our history and skills begin to be lost and we cease to exist as a civilized, thoughtful people.
So, learn your healing herbs and the natural plants of your area that can be used for food and medicine. Get them growing in your yard and in parks and wilderness places. Learn the skills of seed saving and breeding heritage varieties of plants and animals that can breed true. Your life and the lives of your children, elders, grandchildren and the earth itself are counting on you!
God is calling His people out of the cities and into the wilderness and waste places to build new things, new homes. God is calling you with a love song to return to the land, to the good earth. It is time to depend on Him and each other. Read Hosea 2: 14-23. This is a prophecy ignored by the churches that is very simple and easy to understand.
In many places in the Bible God speaks of His people going out into the countryside and building in the wilderness and bringing the water to the desert and waste places. We have forgotten who we are. WE were made to be God's friends and to be his gardeners. Eden was supposed to have gone over the whole earth. It is time to reconnect the phone line to God and to the earth and animals and plants, to heal the soils and plant trees and fruit bushes and vines everywhere. You can plant fruit trees in parks and wild places. It does not have to be on your own land. Someone will get to eat the fruit, even if it is not always you.
Oh, God let me be a blessing to all who know me. Let me be a blessing to the earth and to all living things. Let me be a restorer of the paths to live and walk in. May I bring truth and beauty everywhere I go. In the name of Yavashua Jesus I pray, Amen.

Planting for Autumn
Good morning to all gardeners, farmers, ranchers, Christians and others who believe God is love.
We have been finally getting good amounts of rain here in Texas. If you haven't planted your fall tomatoes and peppers yet, better get to it. With a few sticks and/or PVC pipe and some plastic sheeting you can make a temporary greenhouse for your little plant babies. Be sure to plant your winter tender plants on the south side of your house or garage. Another helpful thing to do is to put in channels with fish in them inside your greenhouse. This helps moderate the temperature even in pretty cool winters. If it is cool enough where you are living, you could try putting rabbit cages in the greenhouse. Make sure the rabbits have shade during the heat of the day.
If you don't want to use a greenhouse, the little dome company in Italy, Texas has invented something they call a "grow hut". Their website is getting pretty interesting. Check it out. Also, if you want to try to grow some heritage true-breeding seeds that you can save for next year, check out Willhite Seeds in Poolville near Dallas and Seed Savers Exchange in Iowa.
Have a good growing season! If you don't have some chickens and ducks yet for manure, eggs and meat, better get some this year. Remember, if roosters are not allowed in your neighborhood, a hen will lay fertile eggs for six weeks if she only gets to be with a rooster for a few days. Very efficient! I had an elderly friend in Houston who kept chickens and hid them from her neighbors with this trick. (Poultry of all kinds were illegal to keep in Houston at that time, even one pet duck or goose or chicken.)
Have a great autumn!

self-sufficiency- I can do it Myself! (ICDIM)
Thinking of growing and preserving your own food?
Goatsies for sale- We have acquired a grandson of the world champion Alpine dairy buck from Redwood Hills Dairy in California. He is a lovely black and white young buck, but has shown us he is not shooting blanks. He fathered triplets on Cocoa Puff, a young light chocolate colored small doe who is half Boer goat (meat goat), 1/4 angora goat (wool or fiber producing goat) and 1/4 African pygmy goat (miniature goat). (Angoras are very small, also.) Two girls and a boy. WE have one boy and one girl (buckling and doeling) for sale at $50 each. They and white and chocolate (like mommy) with "airplane ears". Airplane ears happen when you cross a pointy eared goat like an Alpine with a floppy-eared goat like a Nubian or Boer goat. The boy is Buster Brown and the girl is Cocoa Princess. They should mature as small to medium size goats, produce babies that are good for meat and does that should milk pretty decently. They would be good for a small homestead or suburban homestead. One way to get good milking goats without spending an arm and a leg is to buy a baby dairy buck and cross him on other kinds of goats. If you keep breeding the females back to your dairy buck, in three generations of babies (three years or less) you should have does that are 7/8 pure dairy goat. In four generations you will have does that are 15/16 pure dairy goat! This is how you can reach toward self-sufficiency in food without having a lot of money. YOu can easily make yogurt, kefir, cottage cheese and "farmers cheese" from fresh goats' milk. In this way you can provide high protein, high calcium easy-to-digest food for your family.
If you live in Texas and would like to get Buster Brown or Cocoa Princess, please e-mail us at newamish@gmail.com. It is not a good idea to get them both as they are brother and sister.
Blessings,
Sister Katy
